Most fridge and freezer call-outs come down to a few symptoms: it is not cold enough, the freezer is icing up, water is collecting inside, or the appliance has become noisy. Each points to a short list of likely parts, and the right order of checks saves both time and money.
Many cooling faults are not in the sealed gas system at all. A blocked defrost drain, a failed fan, a worn door seal or condenser coils packed with dust can all stop a fridge cooling properly, and these are usually straightforward repairs.
This is one of the jobs listed under our appliance services. Where a fault crosses into another trade, the same company handles it rather than passing you to a separate contractor.
Common fridge faults and what they usually point to
- Not cooling: dusty condenser coils, a failed fan, a faulty thermostat or a start relay
- Freezer icing up: a worn door seal or a fault in the defrost heater, sensor or timer
- Water inside the fridge: a blocked defrost drain at the back of the cabinet
- Fridge warm but freezer cold: the evaporator fan or the defrost system
- Noisy or clicking: a worn fan motor, or a start relay that keeps cutting out
- Light on but not running: often the start relay, thermostat or control board
What a fridge repair visit covers
- Fault diagnosis with a meter, not guesswork
- Thermostat, sensor and control board checks
- Fan motor, defrost heater and timer replacement
- Door seals and hinges
- Clearing defrost drains and cleaning condenser coils
- Temperature check after the repair before we leave
From your first call to the finished job
-
Book and describe the symptom
Tell us the make, model and what the machine does, including any code on the display. That lets the engineer bring the parts most likely to be needed rather than making a second trip.
-
On-site diagnosis
The machine is isolated, pulled out and tested. Codes are read, components are checked electrically, and the sump and pump are opened where the symptom points that way. You are told what is wrong before anything is replaced.
-
Repair or honest advice
Many faults are fixed on the first visit from van stock. Where the part is uneconomic against the value of the machine, we say so plainly instead of pushing a repair that will not pay for itself.
-
Test and hand back
The appliance is run and the temperatures checked once it starts to pull down. Seals and drains are checked, and you get a plain-English note of what was done.
Fans, defrost systems, seals and sealed-system faults
If a fridge runs but does not get cold, we start with the parts that move air and manage defrost, because they fail far more often than the compressor. Where the fault is in the sealed refrigerant system, we explain on the visit what the repair involves and whether it makes sense for the age of the appliance.
Safe to try yourself, and what is not
Safe to try: check the temperature setting, make sure the door closes fully, leave space behind the appliance for air, and clear any ice blocking the vents. Not safe: chipping ice with sharp tools or touching the wiring at the back. Switch it off and call us.

Common questions
Is it worth repairing my fridge freezer?
Most fan, thermostat, seal and defrost repairs cost much less than a new appliance. If a repair would not make sense for its age, we tell you on the visit before any work starts.
Which brands do you repair?
We repair most domestic brands, including Samsung, LG, Bosch, Beko, Hotpoint, Indesit, Whirlpool, Hisense, Fisher & Paykel and Liebherr.
Why is there water at the bottom of my fridge?
It is usually a blocked defrost drain at the back of the cabinet. Water from the defrost cycle cannot run away, so it collects inside.
How should I keep food safe until the engineer arrives?
Keep the doors closed as much as possible and move essentials to a cool box. A closed freezer that is full will usually hold its temperature for several hours.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover the HA, UB, TW, WD, NW and W postcode areas across West and North West London.
