HA6 has some of the largest plots in the service area, and that shapes the work. Detached houses with long drives, older wiring in properties that have been extended more than once, outbuildings and garden offices on their own supply, and heating systems serving a lot of rooms from one plant. Moor Park adds private roads and gated entrances on top. None of it is difficult, but it does need describing accurately before an engineer sets out.
There is no premises here to visit and nothing to collect. Home Utility operates from vans, with the Great Portland Street address used for administration alone. The same engineer can handle appliance, electrical, heating and plumbing work, which matters on larger properties where one system fault frequently turns out to sit with another trade. The emergency line is staffed continuously for anything urgent.

Getting a van into HA6 Northwood
The A404 Rickmansworth Road is the route in and the road most HA6 addresses hang off. Engineers come along it from the Pinner direction for Northwood Hills and continue through Northwood itself towards the Moor Park side. Green Lane and Joel Street serve the streets behind the Northwood Hills parade. Pinner Road links the southern part of the district and carries most of the local bus traffic. The pinch points are the railway bridges and the junction where Green Lane meets the A404, which slows sharply when the schools and Mount Vernon Hospital traffic overlap. Ducks Hill Road, running out towards the woodland, is narrow, unlit in places and awkward when two vehicles meet. If the A404 is closed, engineers work in from Batchworth and drop down through Northwood rather than trying to cross the closure.
Metropolitan line stations across HA6
All three HA6 stations sit on the Metropolitan line: Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park. Moor Park is where the fast and semi-fast services separate, which is why it is the reference point residents on the estate almost always use. Northwood Hills covers the eastern streets and Northwood serves the centre and the hospital side. Bus links run along the Rickmansworth Road corridor. Naming your station is the surest way to place an address, since road names repeat between the three areas, and it also allows a self-contained electrical or appliance job to be attended without a van where a private road restricts vehicles.
Private roads, permits and access in HA6
Moor Park is the unusual case. It is a private estate with its own gated entrances and privately maintained roads, and access arrangements are set by the estate rather than the council, so tell us at booking whether a name has to be given at the gate or a resident must authorise entry. Elsewhere in HA6, controlled bays cluster around Northwood and Northwood Hills stations where commuter demand is heavy, while most residential roads are unrestricted. Many houses have long drives, which is ideal for unloading, though a gravel or steeply cambered drive is worth mentioning if a heavy appliance is coming out. Flats above the Northwood Hills parade are usually entered from the rear. Say whether gates are electric, whether a code or fob is needed, and where the meter and stopcock sit.

Northwood, Northwood Hills and Moor Park run into one another, and several roads carry names that appear in more than one of them. A fixed marker settles the address in a single phrase. Saying you are on the woodland side, or beside the Northwood Hills station parade, is far quicker than working through a street name that exists twice within the same district.

What HA6 takes in
Home Utility works HA6 in full, taking in Northwood, Northwood Hills and the Moor Park estate, together with the properties out towards the woodland on the western edge. The district touches both the county boundary and neighbouring London postcodes, and a number of roads change district partway along their length. That has no bearing on whether a visit is arranged. Supply your full postcode along with the house name or number at the point of booking, and the address is placed exactly where it should be, whichever authority the street sits under.
Coverage includes Northwood Hills, Moor Park. If you are on the edge of the district, run your postcode through the checker before booking.
What helps an engineer get started quickly
- Full postcode plus house name, which many HA6 properties use instead of numbers
- Gate code, fob, or the name to give at a private estate entrance
- Whether the drive is gravel, steep or shared with a neighbour
- Location of the stopcock, consumer unit and any outbuilding supply
- Appliance data plate details, an adult present and dogs secured
Work we carry out across Northwood
The van that reaches Northwood is not set up for one trade only. Heating, plumbing, electrics and appliances are all handled in house.
Neighbouring districts and their routes
Access conditions change from one district to the next. These are the neighbouring areas our Northwood engineers also work, each with its own routes, parking and access notes.
The office behind the vans
Everything happens at your address, not ours. Great Portland Street is where the business is registered and run from, not somewhere to bring an appliance. Our office and directions page explains the setup.

Frequently asked questions
How do engineers get into the Moor Park estate in HA6?
Moor Park has private roads and gated entrances, and entry is controlled by the estate rather than by the council. Arrangements vary, so tell us when booking whether a name must be left at the gate, whether you need to authorise the visit yourself, or whether a code is required. Passing that on beforehand prevents an engineer being turned back at the entrance with your appointment already under way.
Do you need a permit to park at Northwood properties?
On most residential roads in HA6, no, and long private drives are common, which makes unloading straightforward. Controlled bays do apply near Northwood and Northwood Hills stations, where commuter parking fills spaces early on weekdays. If your street falls inside a zone, a visitor permit is the cleanest answer. Mention gravel or steeply sloping drives too, since heavy appliances need a firm surface to be trolleyed across.
Is Northwood Hills covered for the same range of work as Northwood?
Yes. Appliance, electrical, heating and plumbing work is available across the whole of HA6, including Northwood Hills and the Moor Park estate. Larger and extended properties here often have older circuits alongside newer ones, so an electrical safety inspection is worth considering if the wiring has never been assessed. Any work on gas or on a consumer unit is carried out by a suitably qualified engineer, never by the householder.
